"This year the Denmark High School Music Theatre Program staged their production of Disney's Newsies! After a long audition process back in May of last school year, the cast list was put together and the Newsies were ready for action. The Newsies, led by Bing Harper portraying the character of Jack Kelly, are based on a true group of Newsboys from 1899 who were on strike against unfair wages. Throughout the summer the students did a lot to promote and prepare for the event, including marching in two separate parades to pass out flyers and sing their hearts out as they walked. We also had an unprecedented amount of middle school students this year for the production, and their hard work and talent shows that the theatre program here in Denmark is in good hands! Ranging from grade 3 to seniors in high school, every single student worked hard to pull off this monster of a production. This production included some of the most difficult singing, dancing, and pit orchestra music we've done in Denmark in recent memory, but everybody was up to the task. We also pride ourselves on having one of the most well oiled stage crews around, and this year was no different. If you attended the production, you saw how hard everyone in the cast, crew, and pit orchestra worked. It just goes to show that even when the task of putting on a show seems difficult and exhausting (which it is), all that hard work is so worth it in the end. The memories and friendships made will last a lifetime, and the chance to perform on that stage is something none of those students will ever forget.
All of this work paid off, as there were nearly 2,000 patrons that attended this production! Over the course of 6 shows, there wasn't a single performance that wasn't at least half sold. Thank you to every single person who came to this production to support the arts and to support these hardworking students! We can't wait to show you what we have in store for next school year!"
